I recently watched a movie, new to DVD, called “The Bang Bang Club” about 4 photojournalists in S. Africa covering the 4 years up to Mandela’s election. Joao Silva was one of those four in the “Club”, co-authored the book on which the movie was closely based, gave key advice to the makers of the movie. (The movie isn’t a documentary, but is based on fact and made to be as authentic as they could, including key locations in which the actual violence occurred.)

Since my original post, I saw a tweet from the New York Times Sept. 2 that they’ve hired him as a staffer, not just using him as a freelance photographer. :-)
