The first thing I’ve noticed during my switch to Lightroom is that the LR community is large and generous. There are numerous resources to choose from to help you either switch to LR, start with LR or improve your existing LR skills. This is reason number 382,273 why I’m switching from Aperture to LR. The Aperture community – while vocal and hardworking, isn’t nearly as big and there’s just nothing there to come close to equaling what’s out there for Lightroom.

So let’s start with the obvious. If you want to give LR4 a try – it’s free. Go to https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_lightroom and download your free trial.

Here you’ll find a list of places that offer free or paid training in Lightroom…

1. Of course Adobe has lots of help for Lightroom users. So much in fact that I won’t bother to list all of it here. You can find it on Google or on their page, but here are some of the best starting points in my opinion if you want Adobe’s help with Lightroom:

a. http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom.html
b. http://tv.adobe.com/product/lightroom/
c. http://blogs.adobe.com/jkost/lightroom-training-videos
d. http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2012/03/lightroom-4-0-resources.html Adobe’s list of LR resources – (Some of which may be duplicated elsewhere on this list)
e. http://tv.adobe.com/show/whats-new-in-lightroom-4?PID=2159997

2. http://lightroomkillertips.com/ From Matt at clan Kelby – amazing info, free presets, generous sharing of knowledge

3. Kelbytraining Live – http://kelbytraining.com/tours/adobe-photoshop-lightroom-4-live
Anything from team Kelby is worth trying out.

4. http://kelbytraining.com/ is the real-time streaming site where you can learn LR.

5. http://www.photoshopcafe.com/video/products/Lightroom_4.htm Photoshop Cafe is a DVD-based training site with plenty of LR4 info.

6. http://lightroomers.com/ Lightroomers from Rob Sylvan is another great place to learn from a great guy.

7. http://www.pixiq.com/contributors/4399 Sean McCormack (Lightroom Blog)

8. The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter)

This list is not exhaustive.  If I didn’t list your particular favorite resource it’s not because I “forgot” it or didn’t know about it. Rather – I concentrated on sites that I have personally vetted and know to be valuable. There are so many LR resources out there that you can virtually type random text and reach them. This is a good starting point. Enjoy. I’ll be visiting most of these sites every day over the next few weeks to make sure that I have all the information I need to finish my switch from Aperture to Lightroom.

Scott’s a recent convert to Lightroom from Apple Aperture

I’ve read Scott Kelby’s new book on Lightroom 4. That was excellent. Today I also bought Michael Clark’s 409 page ebook on Lightroom 4. That’s at:

Tue, 03 Apr 2012 14:35:00 -0700 I just got an email from onOne Software that this week they’re making Perfect Layers a free app. Amazing! http://fotofah.posterous.com/i-just-got-an-email-from-onone-software-that http://fotofah.posterous.com/i-just-got-an-email-from-onone-software-that

And I trust since it’s April 3, it’s not an April Fool’s joke. :-) The app works with images from Lightroom Aperture, or any application into a single layered file.

I got the email from them because I’d bought Perfect Layers when it came out. (It’s now version 2.) The offer to owners of Perfect Layers was a different app from them for free or their complete Perfect Photo Suite for just $100 (rather than $300). I’ve rarely heard of offers like this.
