Film/TV recommendation: "Page Eight" (excellent, from PBS Masterpiece Contemporary)

Media_httpwwwpbsorgwg_cijza

I watched this last night on my (free) PBS app on my iPad, but it's also available to watch online at: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/watch/pageeight.html

I've read and watched a lot of espionage (non-fiction as well as fiction). This was excellent with some top-flight actors. No chase scenes, gun battles, or explosions, but very well-plotted and..cerebral.

movie recommendation: "Amen."

I'd highly recommend it. A hat tip to Claudia Chaigne from France who told me about it.

Movie recommendation: ”Cat Ballou”, listed by AFI in their top 10 Westerns ever (very funny, Lee Marvin got Best Actor Oscar for his 2 roles)

This is a classic I hadn’t watched until last night, when I watched it on DVD from Netflix, enjoying also the featurette. This movie gave actor Lee Marvin star status.

I’d seen this photo from the movie before. What I didn’t know until I read about the film on IMDB last night is that it’s very unnatural for a horse to cross its legs. The director pressured the horse trainer to make the horse do this, which he did after 1 hour with sugar cubes(!)
